Thank you for the really awesome story of Curtis Mathes! Growing up, my family always had a C-M set. What set me to this site is, my wife and I found a C-M console headed fro the trash. We picked this monstrous set up, must weigh at least 200 lbs, and took it home. By our surprise this old girl still worked!! Everything is intact except the remote. Made in 1985 and "almost" like the one my family had when I was young. Beautiful craftsmanship you'd never find today in a T.V. I had to email you my C-M story.

Just a comment. I happened upon this due to curiosity about the Curtis Mathes name. My former tenant left behind a 20" diagonal fairly modern television. I took pictures to post on a auction site. What intrigued me was the name on the TV, 'Curtis Mathes'. I've never seen a television with a person's name on it. So, with my curiosity sparked, I typed the name into Google and found a wiki article and now this site. What beautiful consoles!! My tenant was from the south so maybe she knew this to be a good brand. I see that it is top of the line and American made. Wonderful.

Hello, My mother has a Curtis Mathes floor model TV from the early 1980's that she's trying to get rid of. It still works and is in relatively good condition just has a little cosmetic damage on the corners. It was in storage for a lot of years so it still looks good. She wants to just throw it out for the trash man and I think it still would have some value to a collector or antique dealer. I'm not looking to make a killing on it just for it to go to someone who will appreciate it for the beauty it is. I have pictures if interested. The remote is missing but other than that it's good to go.. Anybody interested?????

I have an old Curtis Mathes HQ video recorder that appears to still be in good condition. It has been in a hard case since we bought it in the early 90's. The battery is still in the unit, but I do not have any of the cables, etc. I would very much like to see if anyone is interested in acquiring it for their collection.

Thank you SO much for this site and the upkeep! I used to stop off at my grandma's house on the way home from school when I was in high school. On days when the weather was gorgeous, grandma would have her windows open for the cross breeze and fresh air. I knew it was a good weather day before I even got around the corner to her street. When it was a good weather day, grandma had those windows open and she was listening to vinyls on her Zenith console. I was an odd duck, having a grandma I considered my best friend as a freshman in high school but...we had the same taste in a LOT of things. Bad weather days of too hot or too cold (northern Minnesota) everything was shut up and we'd chat while we watched a Doris Day marathon or...John Wayne movies. I miss that so much. She passed away the year before I got married, 2004, and I found that her console was what I missed about sharing with her the MOST. I'm 37 and I've been looking for a console for a while, but all I typically run into people asking very little simply because they have no used for it, don't know the value, and they want it out of their house fast. Then...there are people pricing them like they're selling you a brick of gold. When I look through the photos there is a ton of cosmetic damage, sometimes the fabric over the speakers is torn or ripped, and they can't tell me if ANY of it WORKS. Lol But, they "looked on Ebay and these radios sell for hundreds and thousands of dollars". I bet they work though. A couple times when I went to look at a console it was pretty obvious why they framed their shots so tight. Lol the turntable doesn't turn, the radio can't pick up stations, there are WIRES exposed, and the coup de grace.....they don't know if BOTH speakers work or not. I predict this takes me another year at least. I love these consoles! Thank you for sharing!

Interesting web site. I was researching the brand name Rutherford as it was sold along with RCA and other brands at my dad's business. Come to find out as I did not know that it was a secondary brand of Curtis Mathis. Also looking through some of you pictures was interested to see the RCA set in late 80's sold as Curtis Mathis. That very distinct nearly flat tube and sleek slender controls at side of tube. I had that 27" RCA with the ahead of it's time direct access remote and jack panel in back that had advanced EIA interface jack that never came to much if any use. Overall though the many, many overzealous statement about what was made by CM is a bunch of lies. The best made stereo? (In era not even close to Fisher or Ampex. Cassette deck, made by Fisher. Come on people , a good maker of solid equipment but not the Holy Grail and hype or misinformation all over this blob!

What is the chassis number of the 1959 - Thomas Eric Little? http://www.curtis-mathes.com/1959mathesstereophonic.htm I also have a 1959 console - the service card stapled to the inside of the cabinet indicates it is a 1309 AD (Cherry) I think they may use the same amp. the front control panels look exactly the same. its a Push Pull 6bq5 Thank you Matthew.

I am happy to have found this site. CM wow what a history. I grew up with my mother & fathers purchase of the Royal Dane 912D, with matching book case (912BK) and B/W Television (156-23W). The TV still works today. Speakers have deteriorated and the speaker grill has pulled away. Couple of questions. Is their someone whom can restore, the cost? pricing if I sold as is or after being restored. The stereo is amazing, it would shake the walls in the house...Curious Owner. I do have pics available...MARK

I have a 19" Curtis Mathes TV on a pedestal that I bought around 1981-1982. I do not use it anymore, but the last time I did, the picture still looked great. It had some issues with the volume cutting out, though.

I have a Curtis mathis fan on 4 legs, adjustable wood slats in oerfect condition. It's exactly like the one featured on this website. It's 4 speed and works perfectly. Any idea it's value?
